Mary & Alissa
How they met…
Mary and Alissa met at a singles event shortly after Alissa had moved to Chicago. They both look back and laugh, because attending such an event was so uncharacteristic for both of them. Alissa was the first one to arrive at the event. She said she was losing all hope until Mary walked in. And the feeling was mutual; something about Alissa’s demeanor drew Mary to her right away. Mary sat down on the bar stool closest to Alissa and they proceeded to talk and laugh for the rest of the night. They hit it off immediately and both felt as though they had known each other for years.
Mary proposed to Alissa at a concert in Chicago. They had plans to go for a night out in the city to see one of Alissa’s favorite bands. Alissa didn’t know it but Mary had reached out to the band manager in the weeks prior to the concert and asked if she could propose onstage during their performance. The band manager agreed and the plan was set in action. That night the lead singer of the band called them up on stage and Mary got down on one knee and proposed in front of dozens of cheering spectators. Alissa says that was the “Best concert ever!”
Favorite wedding memory…
Mary and Alissa’s favorite wedding memory was having Alissa’s grandmother as their maid of honor. Grandma Jean was a consistent source of comfort and support throughout Alissa’s life. She was truly Alissa’s best friend. When she met Mary, Grandma Jean immediately accepted her and loved her. She was so excited for the wedding and supported the couple in any way she could. They will never forget Grandma Jean walking down the aisle in front of Alissa with a wooden sign attached to her walker that read, “Here comes the love of your life…”
