The 12-story Historic Onesto features exquisite Italian renaissance architecture, including cathedral ceilings, picture windows, travertine terrazzo floors and the original 1929 crystal chandelier. The refurbished chandelier, valued at more than $300k, is truly the centerpiece of this magnificent space.
“A popular phrase I hear from brides after touring the venue is, ‘You had me at the chandelier,’” says General Manager Chuck Schuster. “It’s a truly breathtaking experience walking into the Historic Onesto for the first time.”
A Rich History
Built in 1929, the 12-story Historic Onesto was once a premier hotel that hosted many celebrities and prominent figures in its heyday, notably Presidents
John F. Kennedy and Dwight D. Eisenhower, Al Capone, Marilyn Monroe and Tina Turner. “Canton was known as ‘Little Chicago’ in those days, and was a well-traveled area offering many entertainment oppor- tunities for visitors,” Schuster explains. “From being a popular destination for Big Band artists to hosting the Pro Foot- ball Hall of Fame’s first Enshrinement Ceremony, the Historic Onesto has such
a rich history.”
Although the Onesto Hotel closed in
1974, the historic building has experi- enced a renaissance. Exactly 84 years after the building formally opened its doors to the community, the Historic Onesto re-opened in 2014 as luxury loft apartments and a private event space.
Developer Steve Coon purchased the hotel with the goal of revitalizing down-
town Canton, Schuster says. Fast-forward to today, and a bustling arts district filled with galleries, boutiques and cafes now surrounds the Historic Onesto.
Vintage Meets Modern
The Historic Onesto lobby is an impressive area for guests to mingle during cocktail hour. This space has a beautiful baby grand piano, and many couples bring in a pianist to play their favorite songs or Big Band-era tunes to fit the 1930s styling.
Accommodating about 320 guests, the Grand Ballroom is ideal for larger wedding ceremonies and receptions. The ballroom features elegant touches such as maple and mahogany floors, crystal chandeliers, and ornate woodworking. Offering the latest in audio-visual technology, couples have the opportunity to play personal- ized videos and picture slideshows or project patterns and images onto the ballroom walls.
Recommended for more intimate events, the Onesto Room and Grand Lobby are a perfect setting for weddings and receptions for 80 guests or less. The rooms are available for Friday and Sunday events only.
