Tetiquette
simply the best
The best man is traditionally responsible for the bachelor party; supervising the groomsmen and ushers on
the wedding day; getting the groom to the ceremony on time; securing the wedding rings, marriage license, and officiant’s fee; and making
ips
the first toast at the reception.
maid to order
Usually, the maid or matron of honor is in charge of throwing the bridal shower, although bridesmaids or other relatives may pitch in or take charge. She and the
bridesmaids help the bride get dressed and stay calm on the wedding day. The maid of honor holds the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony (and sometimes the groom’s ring too).
She may also give a toast at the reception.
rehearsal dinner questions
A good rule of thumb: those who attend the rehearsal should also attend the rehearsal dinner. The bride and groom’s
parents, grandparents, siblings and their partners or spouses attend. Bridesmaids, groomsmen, the officiant, and
their partners or spouses are also invited. Other wedding party members like flower girls (children should be invited
with their parents) and readers should also be in attendance. Very close relatives or those who have traveled long
distances may be invited, but it is not mandatory.
signed, sealed and thanked
Phone calls and e-mail don’t count! A personally handwritten thank-you note from the bride or groom
should be sent within a month of receiving a gift (three months at the most). Thank members of the
wedding party, those who provided other services, and everyone who gave a gift. Stay organized by
keeping a file of gifts received and by pre-addressing envelopes.
