Originally opened on August 20, 1930,the Historic Onesto was once a premier hotel that hosted many celebrities and prominent figures in its heyday, notably President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe. In fact, the Onesto held the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s first Enshrinement Ceremony in 1963. “Many famous individuals came into town for the Hall of Fame ceremony and stayed at the Onesto,” says General Manager Chuck Schuster. “Al Capone stayed at the hotel during his travels between Youngstown and Chicago. The Onesto has such a rich history.”Although the Onesto Hotel closed in 1974, the building is now experiencing a renaissance.

Exactly 84 years after the building formally opened its doors to the community, the Onesto re-opened in 2014 as luxury loft apartments and a private event space. Developer Steve Coon purchased the Onesto with the goal of revitalizing downtown Canton. “Mr. Coon has been instrumental in bringing downtown Canton back to life with the rehabilitation of many historic buildings,” Schuster says. While the venue has been updated with modern amenities, the Onesto maintains its beautiful Italian renaissance architecture. Upon walking into the Onesto’s original revolving doors, guests are treated to a magnificent lobby with travertine terrazzo floors, Tennessee pink marble, walnut trim and a recently refurbished crystal chandelier valued at more than $300,000. The lobby is typically used for serving cocktails and appetizers before the reception. This space also has a beautiful baby grand piano, and many couples bring in a pianist to play during cocktail hour.

Accommodating about 350 guests, the Onesto’s Grand Ballroom is ideal for larger wedding ceremonies and receptions. The ballroom features elegant touches such as maple and mahogany floors, crystal chandeliers, and ornate woodworking throughout. Recommended for rehearsal dinners, wedding showers and more intimate events, the Onesto Room, adjacent to the ballroom, seats about 50 guests.

For an additional charge, the bride and groom have the option to stay in the Onesto’s bridal suite. The luxury loft features upgrades like granite countertops, wood floors, modern appliances and more. Creating a vintage feel, the suite features a large antique barber chair from Paolo’s Barber Shop, which was located inside the Historic Onesto shortly after opening. Convenient for wedding guests, a parking garage is attached to the Onesto for easy access to the ballroom. Valet service is also available, if desired.
